MedicMess Conference Intelligence
Audience
Basic, translational and clinical respiratory scientists, including students, technicians, postdoctoral researchers, clinical trainees, academic clinicians and industry attendees.
Networking
BALR describes its summer meeting as a relaxed annual gathering for members to exchange ideas and create collaborations across basic and clinical pulmonary research.
Research Value
Strong research value: abstract submission was offered with structured 300-word abstracts and sessions focused on lung disease mechanisms, environmental drivers, modelling, repair and fibrosis.
Trainee Relevance
Good value for respiratory trainees and early-career researchers because BALR explicitly supports young scientists and publishes student/clinical trainee fee tiers; student proof of status may be requested.

The Complete Guide to the BALR 2026 Summer Meeting

BALR 2026 Summer Meeting runs from 23 to 25 June 2026 in Leicester and is hosted by the University of Leicester Department of Respiratory Sciences. The official page describes the meeting as the British Association for Lung Research conference, with sessions at the George Davies Centre, Lancaster Road LE1 7HB, within walking distance of Leicester Railway Station. BALR describes itself as a community for respiratory scientists from basic to clinical research, and the meeting is framed around respiratory science, collaboration and innovation.

The programme themes are already visible on the BALR meetings page. Sessions include three forces shaping lung disease: genetics, damage and mechanisms of repair; environmental drivers of lung disease; computational and experimental models of lung disease; mechanisms of dysregulated repair from injury to fibrosis; and emerging mechanisms in the cycle from lung injury. The University of Leicester page says the programme of sessions and speakers is still being finalised, so individual speaker cards should be treated as pending rather than confirmed. Financial support has been provided by pharmaceutical company sponsors without input into the agenda, except for a Boehringer Ingelheim non-promotional speaking slot.

Abstract submission is now closed. The original extended deadline was Thursday 30 April 2026, with abstracts submitted by email to the organising committee. Abstracts were limited to 300 words excluding title, authors, affiliations, references and keywords, and had to be structured as Introduction, Aims, Materials and Methods, Results, Conclusion and References. Registration remains open with an extended deadline of Friday 12 June 2026. BALR member fees are £150 for student or technician delegates, £250 for postdoctoral researchers or clinical trainees, and £300 for academic or clinical delegates; non-member academic or clinical registration is £400 and industry registration is £600. The fee includes sessions, lunch, refreshments and conference dinner.
