Building Safer Hospitals 2026 is a one-day multidisciplinary conference curated by BEIPI, the Built Environment Infection Prevention Initiative, and hosted through the Healthcare Infection Society. It takes place at Goodenough College in London on 9 November 2026 and is aimed at clinical IPC teams, hospital leaders, designers, construction professionals and estates teams involved in planning, building and maintaining healthcare environments.
The programme follows the healthcare building lifecycle, with sessions on the human consequences of design decisions, antimicrobial resistance and the future of healthcare, why things go wrong, RIBA stages 0-3, RIBA stages 4-7, handover, commissioning, use, and national and international insights. Confirmed speakers include Ron Finlay, Prof John Cuddihy, Lord Jim O'Neill, Dr Manjula Meda, Rachelle McDade, Dr Joost Hopman, James Gordon, Graham Day, Dr Chris Settle, Mark Walker, John Bodley-Scott, Susanne Surman-Lee, Dr Mike Weinbren, Nigel Keery, George McCracken, Dr Richard Beattie and Dr Wolfgang Sunder.
Registration has staged pricing. Super early bird rates are available until 30 June 2026 at £100 for HIS members and £200 for non-members. Early bird rates are available until 30 August 2026 at £125 for HIS members and £250 for non-members. Standard rates are £200 for HIS members and £400 for non-members. Abstract submissions are open for work covering infection prevention in the built environment, with a closing date of Friday 10 July 2026 at 17:00 BST. Accepted abstracts are poster presentations; presenters must register, provide a PDF for the digital poster book and produce an A0 portrait poster for the in-person event. Accreditation will be sought from the Royal College of Pathologists for 5 CPD credits, with a digital certificate after the event.
