TRAINEE Trainee Opportunities
RCEM TERN Fellowship
Provides up to 50% of salary (capped at £33,000/year) over two years for EM trainees at ST3 or above to develop and deliver trainee-led multicentre research projects.
RCEM Doctoral Fellowship
PhD Fellowship contributing £40,000/year (total £120,000 over 3 years) towards salary costs for EM clinicians (CT1 and above) wishing to undertake a PhD.
RCEM Research Grants
Grants up to £15,000 for research projects relevant to emergency medicine; particularly encouraged for trainees, specialty doctors, and consultants within five years of CCT.
RCEM Undergraduate Essay Prize
Annual prizes of £500, one-year membership, and conference attendance for undergraduate students submitting original research or QI essays in emergency medicine.
Rod Little Prize
Annual award for the UK-based trainee with outstanding research presented at the RCEM Annual Scientific Conference.
Alison Gourdie Prize
Award of up to £5,000 for training grade doctors and consultants within five years of appointment to support travel and/or research in emergency medicine.
Beth Christian Award
Travelling scholarship grant of up to £2,500 to support travel to Australasia for EM trainees and consultants within five years of appointment who are RCEM members in good standing.
Emergency Medicine Trainees Association (EMTA)
A dedicated association for EM trainees affiliated with RCEM, providing representation, community and support.
RCEM/NIHR Associate Professor Scheme
Scheme recognising and supporting NHS clinicians delivering high quality research, providing mentorship, academic support and a three-year title.
